energy advocates are proposing a ballot measure to increase Arizona’s income tax credit for solar energy devices and create a new trading exchange for the state to sell energy credits at a profit.
Supporters of the initiative must collect petition signatures of 172,809 voters by July 5, 2012 to qualify the measure for the 2012 general election ballot.
Drive organizer Robert Hoskins of the Arizona Solar Power Society says the effort is expected to garner the support of solar industry companies and that passage would benefit consumers, the industry and the state.
Two near-identical initiatives were filed on Friday but one is being set aside. Hoskins says that’s because only one needs to be approved by voters to make all the proposed changes in state law.
